I found myself in a rather unusual situation of having a Friday night in Melbourne with a lot of time to kill. After asking my local buddy (though ironically from Houston, TX) for some whisky recommendations, he suggested Starward. It just so happened the distillery was a few minutes away from the stadium where I was to watch my first Aussie-rules football game so figured I should at least stop by and say hi!
From the minute you enter this place you know you are in for a great time. I pulled up to the bar and was offered a flight which I happily accepted. During the tasting I had the please of chatting with one of the head brewers there and he was super passionate about what they were doing. You could just tell it was in his bones…such a great night of chatting and learning about what all they were about.
I only wish this stop on my trip was at the end so I could have snagged some bottles to take home! Next time…
