While in Richmond, VA for a fun weekend with my wife and some friends, I somehow convinced everyone to head over to this great craft distillery in what seemed like an industrial park close to downtown. For a couple folks in our group it was their very first tasting of any kind – including wine – so I knew we were in for a fun time.
Driving up to this place I was already in love. The distillery is everything I love about the craft story: bare bones, rugged, full of character and no frills. Dwight was there working hard, but gave us some of his time for a wonderful tasting. What was kind of cool about the tasting experience is you could either try the spirit he was describing, or you could have it as one of their signature cocktails. For those in the group who were new to the craft spirits game, this actually helped it all be a bit more approachable.
They do all their own distilling. One thing I got to try that I hadn’t had before was some Oster Vit which is their take on a Aquavit (Scandinavian spirit) though uses oyster shells in the mix. Really cool to try out. I also really liked their Arctic Snow potato vodka.
This is a definite must when visiting Richmond!
